Bed Bath and Beyoooond!

Type Violations

Bed Bath and Beyond LogoThis logo was probably designed way before Buzz Lightyear uttered his immortal words, but every time I see this logo I can’t help but hear Tim Allen’s voice proclaiming that I am within proximity of the store. This is a classic example of what not to do when designing a logotype. Don’t get me wrong…I’m not one of those ultra-sensitive designers who think you should never alter type by stretching it (let’s face it, we’ve all met one of those before), but this is just lame.

I’m sure the designer thought it was a clever way of emphasizing the notion of ever-expansive space and huge inventory (“we carry eeeeeverything!”), but could they have picked a more pedestrian way of doing it? Sure the weights are all off, but hey, it’s kerned!
